5 steps to prevent plant pests

Plant pests can become a serious issue if not taken care of promptly. Follow the steps below to protect your plants this season.

step 1: do not overwater your plants

Overwatering plants can cause serious issues from fungus gnats to root rot. The best way to prevent overwatering is choosing an aerating soil and to not water too frequently. I suggest getting a moisture meter to check the levels of water in your soil.

step 2: Water your plants in the shower

Every couple of weeks when watering your plants you can give them a short shower. The water from the shower head will knock off any pests that are on your plants leaves.

step 3: Inspect your plants regularly

If you notice pests on one of your plants, immediately quarantine that plant for at least two weeks and treat it with neem oil or a soap solution to stop the infestation.

step 4: Clean soil

When repotting a plant use clean, fresh soil! Never reuse soil or just use soil from your backyard. This could bring pests and other unwanted bugs that could harm your indoor plants.

step 5: Inspect New plants before buying

Getting a new houseplant is always so exciting, especially when its been on your wish list for a while! But be aware that any new plant you bring home could bring a list of problems. Make sure to always check the leaves and stems for any problems. Even if you don't notice any pests it is always best practice to isolate this plant for a couple of weeks before putting it near any of your other house plants.
